Be the leader you are...and rally your crew!
Lead the group in an activity that bonds and connects. If it's fun for everyone then you may have a new family tradition on your hands.
Movies are great, but activities create lifetime memories.
Some creative ideas include:
-Charades/Pictionary
-Family hike
-Chinese food
-Visit a neighbor, a senior citizen or someone who may be alone today, Christmas Day.
Bring a gift!
Our children can be filled with selfishness, self-centeredness and entitlement---especially on Christmas Day!
Do not freak out - this is a normal part of their development.
But what is also normal, is their ability to be kind and caring.
Kids can be selfless servants. They can be grateful.
Having a holiday time of prayer, Scripture reading, or "gratitude sharing" is a great way to both teach our kids about gratitude, but to also give them a platform to express it.
We want our kids to have an amazing day. And we also want them to...
Be grateful.
Be kind.
Be loving to their siblings.
Be a team player.
Help clean up and set up.
Be loving, welcome open and kind to extended family and grandparents.
Get off screens.
Not whine about what they got or didn't get.
We want our kids to act well so we can enjoy the day as much as they do.
But kids are kids.
Teens are teens.
And today will not be perfect.
Buttons will be pushed.
Things wil not go as planned.
So...
Take care of yourself. Your mind. Your expectations, Your emotions.
And don't be weird.
Instead.
Be loving.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
